BELL pursues its mission by providing educational summer and after school programs to children who need them most. The BELL Summer and BELL After School programs feature small-group tutoring in literacy and math; mentoring from adult role models to foster self-respect and social skills; experiential learning through field trips, guest speakers and community service; support for parents to more deeply engage in their children's education; and rigorous evaluation to ensure continual improvement and success for children.
Program Goals
BELL sets high expectations for scholars and for parents. BELL has three major goals for scholars to achieve: improve academic performance, improve self-concept, and develop positive social skills. Expected short-term outcomes of BELL's educational programs are:
Increased Academic Performance
Scholars will demonstrate proficiency in literacy.
Scholars will demonstrate proficiency in math.
Improved
Self-Concept
Scholars will report higher self-concept relating to reading and math.
Scholars will demonstrate improved effort and motivation to learn.
Development
of Social Skills
Scholars will demonstrate more positive interaction with peers and better self-management skills.
Parent Engagement
Parents will participate in BELL activities.
Parents will advocate for their children in the schools.
Parents will be satisfied with the program.
